Graffiti Jazz

In his adolescence, graffiti exerted an intense attraction for Rembrandt Frerichs. He practiced it wholeheartedly and it ignited his artistic development.

Although his focus, for the past twenty years, has been with jazz, the excitement of graffiti surely has been slumbering in his memories. Until now. Graffiti Jazz is an honest and direct approach to translate the euphoria of illegal graffiti spraying into sound, form and rhythm. Jazz like street art: in your face and challenging conventions.

‘To constantly maintain the enormous diversity that characterizes Graffiti Jazz makes the CD a penetrating document. A true gem in sound.’

‘The interaction is very tight-knit, as always.’

‘Colourful, spontaneous, light-footed and surprising. Rembrandt Frerichs is still the leader of one of the best jazz trios in the country.’

— De Nieuwe Muze

‘Deconstructions of common jazz rhythms. Frerichs is a rhythmic thinker who likes to juggle with measures. Full of tension and harmonic twists and turns.’
